Back to School

This is always my hardest blog post of the year it seems!  Dave is back to work.  Alex is back to school.  Sean is starting back up at Miss Lisa's daycare.  Summer is over and everybody's daily routines have been turned upside down!!!

On top of that, I am realizing how quickly my babies are growing up as each school year comes and goes.  Alex is starting 1st grade!  He's very excited and eager to go back to school and he's super pumped to have his own locker this year.  Sean has one more year to enjoy being a kid at daycare before he starts the school day grind.  He will be more than ready by waiting one extra year and he will probably be one of the oldest, smartest and most confident in his class next Fall!

First day of 1st grade for this kid!

Another existing milestone happened to Alex a day before school started.  He lost his first tooth and the Tooth Fairy made a visit to the Michna house!!!

No more tooth!

Dad finally yanked the tooth after it was wiggly for over a month!

A Day on the Farm!

We had such a fun time at Ashley and Jason’s new farm that they just recently bought.  Alex and Sean made some friends and they played a game of kickball.  We checked out the the new chickens and the boys loved exploring the barn.  They also enjoyed the tree swing and huge bonfire that they had at night.  We had a great time!  Congrats to you, Ashley and Jason, on your new home!

Summer is winding down and we are enjoying every last day.  We went to Zoo a la Carte with our friends, Katie and Zack and Ty and Josie.  We had so much fun listening to the music and trying different foods.  The kids had a blast on the playground.  It was so good to catch up with old friends!!!

Hot! Hot! Hot!

This summer has been a hot one and I’m not complaining!  I wish this weather would never end!!!  We took the boys to Little Amerricka on Saturday and we had fun riding rides all day!  It was a hot day so I think the bumper boats were everybody’s favorite since we got wet.

We spent one last summer day at Wirth Pool on Sunday and it was wonderful!  It was hot and the perfect day to spend cooling off in the water.

Look at these two hot sun babes!
All that hot weather brought on the storms over the weekend.  While Dad was outside capturing the perfect photo of the lighting bolts in the sky, Alex and Sean were inside "seeing ghosts."  So that turned into a brother sleepover!  You wouldn't know it from their smiling faces but they were really scared and I'm glad they had each other for comfort!

State Fair and More

We took advantage of this beautiful, summer night and walked around State Fair trying different foods and having fun!  We had to get our root beer milk which is a favorite of ours.  We ran into Grandma, Ann and Mark and shared their deep fried brownie which was too good for words!  The boys got to go down the Giant Slide and they also went on the Sky Glider for the first time and loved it.  It was a great night a wonderful way to spend my birthday!!!

Great way to end my birthday!
The boys treated me to a birthday lunch at The Chocolate Factory!
We have been busy trying to cram every last adventure in this summer before school starts back up.  We went to a Magic Waters waterpark in Rockford, IL and spent all day on the water slides and in the wave pool.  We had a blast!  Alex even went on the Double Dare Drop about 6 times and Seanie loved some of the bigger tube rides he could go on with me.  We love the water!

My cousin, Theresa, and her hubby, Antoine, were in town from Atlanta over the weekend and we celebrated Ari’s 1st birthday.  It was a blast and so good to see them!  The kids played so well together and ended the night with Ghost in the Graveyard!  It was so much fun!!!

Great America

This post comes a week late but so worthy to add to the blog.  We joined Steve, Jen, Hailey and Logan for a super fun day at Great America.  It was Alex’s first time ever to Great America and it definitely surpassed his expectations.

I knew he liked roller coasters to some degree but didn’t know what his tolerance would be on the bigger, faster rides.  We started out with the Whizzer and worked up to the Demon.  He LOVED both of them.  Then he started talking about how he wanted to go on the Eagle.  Alex was just tall enough to be able to ride some of the bigger roller coasters like the Eagle.  I asked if he was looking at the right roller coaster.  The Eagle is the white, wooden one with the HUGE hill.  Oh yea, he wanted to go on it.  We did and he LOVED that one too!
As the day progressed, he heard people talking about the Goliath – the tallest, fastest, steepest wooden roller coaster.  He asked me if he could go on it.  I never thought this was an option at the beginning of the day.  Again, he just makes the height requirement.  This is the same ride that Steve was trying to get Hailey on all day but she said no.  That was up until Alex sparked some interest in the ride.  Hailey said if Alex goes on then I will go on.  It’s now 9:00 PM and we can choose one more roller coaster to go on.  Alex and Hailey both want to go on the Goliath.
So after waiting 75 minutes for this ride, it’s our turn to ride the Goliath.  Alex clutches my hand as we climb the first hill before we get to the 85 degree drop and starts to tear up and he says, I don’t know if I can do this!  Two seconds later, we are having the time of our lives.  We all walked off that ride with such a high.  It was awesome and the perfect way to end our night at Great America!

Our sweet Sean turned 4 years old on Saturday! He just lights up our world with that great big smile of his and lovable personality! Such a happy, easy-going kid and the best little snuggle bug. Everyone gets along with our Seanie Man!  We celebrated his birthday on Saturday with a Camo Party and we all had a blast with the birthday boy!  He felt so special all day long and everyone made him feel so loved with all the cool presents and attention!  Happy birthday Seanie!!! Seanie’s birthday weekend continued today at the Zoo.  Sean participated in his first zoo class with other 4 and 5 year olds and he learned all about Dinosaurs.  I was so fortunate to have been able to spend the afternoon with him, just me and Sean.  After the zoo class, we checked out the playground.  We stopped for ice cream along the way which tasted delicious on this very hot afternoon.  We ended our zoo day with a train ride and carousel ride.  We had a great time together!
